Flame detectors, unlike smoke and
heat detectors, do not rely on
convection to transport the fire
products to the detector nor do they
rely on a ceiling to trap the products.
They can therefore be used to
protect large open areas without
sacrificing speed of response to
flaming fires. In order to ensure full
coverage however, flame detectors
do require direct line of sight to all
parts of the protected area.
